Carbonite was founded after our CEO and Co-Founder, David Friend, experienced a personal data disaster. As David explains, “Several years ago, when my daughter was a sophomore in college, she called me, sobbing. Her hard drive had crashed and she lost the term paper that she had been working on for 6 weeks! Her unsympathetic professor didn’t want to hear any excuses. Just a few weeks earlier, my business partner Jeff’s wife’s laptop was stolen out of her car. She ended up losing two years of baby pictures and financial records. Poof. Gone. She hadn’t bothered to back any of it up.”

Since launching Carbonite in 2006, we have backed up nearly 200 billion files. Today we back up more than 300 million new files every day.
